Thoughts: It’s no secret that I have an insatiable sweet tooth, meaning that a trip to a macaron shop is one of my favorite pick me ups. I’ve been to Olivia Macaron in Georgetown a handful of times and keep going back… the simple yet chic decor, convenient location, and petite + delicious macarons are enough to draw in both myself and the steady stream of customers that I’ve seen whenever I go in. If you find yourself in Georgetown (or are looking for an excuse to go), I strongly recommend stopping by the shop.
As I mentioned, I’m partial to the pistachio and raspberry flavors. However, I think they do a wonderful job bringing in unique and unexpected variations that you wouldn’t expect to be macaron flavors. Case in point: Black Sesame is on the agenda for September and there was Basil earlier this summer. Both were delicious, despite the somewhat quirky flavors. They also serve Intelligentsia coffee, which is supposedly pretty good (say the people who drink coffee…I’m trusting their judgement!). The bakery is also participating in the Taste of Georgetown festival in a couple of weeks, if you’re local. Whether you’re planning to attend the festival or not, I strongly recommend stopping by the Georgetown storefront… the decor is top notch and everyone (and everything, ahem all the macarons) behind the counter is absolutely wonderful!
Black Sesame! So good. Tastes nutty – you can definitely taste the seeds – but still really sweet… it’s perfect for both sweet + savory lovers! I’d definitely give this to someone who hasn’t tried a macaron and is wary of taking the plunge because they don’t have a huge sweet tooth.
