A little fact about me: I love Switzerland. A lot. I’ve been twice, both times with my parents, and we covered a lot of ground over those two trips. The first was when I was about 12 and the second at about 17. By then, I’d found the street I wanted to live on in Zurich and discovered Franklin College in St. Moritz, where I was convinced I’d go to for my undergrad.
Haha, how things changed. I soon realized that it wasn’t the most practical for me to go to school abroad and settled for knowing that when I grew up and made lots of $$ (and we’re talking, lots, because Switzerland is really freaking expensive), I could visit whenever I wanted. I’ve been itching so badly to go back, and am happy to say I’ll be spending a little time there during my trip to Germany in March! The agenda is still yet TBD, but of course I’ll be sharing more over here as we get closer.
Back to this hotel. When I landed on a series of photos from St. Moritz on Gray Malin’s Instagram, I immediately did a search on the pictured Kempinski Hotel. And then promptly determined that it was going up on the blog. This place looks like it belongs in another world! Doesn’t the exterior in the first photo look artificial and out of a postcard? I’m also a fan of the simplistic decor; nothing seems over the top or gives off a “trying too hard to be high-end” vibe, which I think is rare in many luxury hotels. It’s suitable (well, more than just “suitable”) in both the summer and winter… the obvious winter sports like skiing and other alpine activities, plus hiking and mountain biking in the summer. I personally would prefer to visit in the winter, as I can’t even imagine how cozy and welcoming it is after a long day out on the slopes/in a winter wonderland. In case the outside views, lobby, and bar area aren’t enough, there is a 24-hour, 9,000 square foot spa, which without a doubt is why “des bains” – “the baths” – is part of the hotel’s official name. Isn’t that insane? The property is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year (!!!) and if you find yourself looking for a real splurge, there is a “Special Offer” in honor of the Jubilee.
Has anyone a) been to St. Moritz or b) stayed here?! I would love to know… any skiers out there may want to add this to their dream destinations!
