Welcome back to the first Friday Things post in what seems like eternity! (so about two weeks). How was your first full week of the new year? I’m not going to lie, things were a bit of a struggle around here. The feeling of being partially refreshed and ready to tackle whatever comes your way, coupled with the post-holiday blues and the craving for more downtime is no joke. I’m feeling a little drained so am hoping to take it a bit easy this weekend – hope you guys have a great one!
EATING: I’m all about the crockpot (I have this one) these days, and I made these turkey meatballs on Sunday night with some Trader Joe’s Spinach & Chive Linguine. They turned out amazing (I also just got a meat thermometer that’s been fun to use) and have been a great, wholesome meal this chilly week.
THROWING IT OUT: On New Years Day, I threw away a trash bag full of random papers from the past year. I legit love decluttering and organizing and am still eyeing things in my room that have.got.to.go. Is it weird to use a vacation day for cleaning? (yes)
WEEKENDING: We’re going to a friend’s housewarming, I’m cranking out a lot of side work, and am shooting some outfit photos (finally!). Anyone else want to keep the new year’s burst of productivity going?
– Anyone else love food Instagram accounts? Well, here are 22 to follow! I love getting inspired to cook more creatively, and they give great ideas on ways to put together food photoshoots.
– Victoria did a really informative, in-depth post on how people handle money with their significant others. It’s a lengthy read, but I highly recommend it whether you’re single, in a relationship, or married. Some things that surprised me: many people seem to keep finances separate after marriage, which never even crossed my mind – I guess I’ve always seen them combined, and that almost half of the people listed as married don’t have their own personal checking account. It’s really interesting! Also, for all you fellow design junkies, this post is a great example of how to present lots of data in a digestible way :)
– Jess has some really informative tips for networking and speaks against the go-to “would love to grab coffee” line that’s so often used when we connect with others. An interesting read, no matter what your age/wherever you are in your career.
– Caramelized balsamic brussels sprouts because a) healthy b) yummy c) brussels sprouts are actually good for you d) it’s “brussels,” not “brussel”…anyone else been getting that wrong?!
– Who else wants to go dog sledding and check out an ice hotel? Wanderlust is real, guys.
