Navy Eyelet

There’s something so easy and mindless about an eyelet dress…it’s both a blank canvas to be dressed up or down, and also works well on its on for the days when you just don’t want to to think. So I’m excited to share this pretty navy number with you guys today–I’ve worn it to work and snapped these photos before dinner with friends on Saturday night (we went to The Smith, which has become one of my favs! The burger and s’mores in a jar are great, as are all the cocktails!)

A couple things worth noting: while this dress is kind of on the pricier side, it’s been a struggle to find cute, 100% cotton, machine washable summer dresses. I’m not sure why every retailer can’t get enough of synthetics other than they mean cheaper materials so cheaper prices. Summer heat can be brutal and I try to incorporate as much cotton into my wardrobe as possible because it’s pretty much one of the only ways to stay a few degrees cooler while schlepping around the city this time of year. The eyelet is also a summer staple, and makes it easy to skip the jewelry and accessorizing since it has that inherent element of detailing. For reference, I’m wearing a size small here and am typically a 4 in dresses. This fits perfectly and doesn’t hug the body too closely–a tough thing to find with more fitted silhouettes! Note that there’s an exposed zipper down the back…a nice modern touch to a pretty traditional dress.

Classic summer style

Also, I need to mention this clutch…how freaking cute is it? Inslee has been one of my favorite artists for years, and she teamed up with SCOUT to host this great event where she live illustrated monograms. It’s something I’ll definitely treasure and is one of the more unique pieces in my closet! (The pouch is $22 and comes in a bunch of patterns–highly recommend snagging on for yourself or a friend :))
