Apartment Sneak Peeks

I’m so excited to finally share some peeks of our new apartment with you guys! As you may remember, we moved in this spring and have been slowly making our way through the typical mile-long list of to-dos. The good news is most of the bigger things have been purchased, the living room has been painted (in Paper White, if you’re curious), we got barstools for the bar area, and hung up a gallery wall over the couch (getting all the frames off the floor was amazing). This is by no means “done,” but I’ve been getting quite a few questions regarding when updates would be shared sooo here we are!

Please keep in mind that these are pretty imperfect…I did tidy up a bit but clearly didn’t dust (as evidenced by the photo above), didn’t set up a tripod (#grainyphotos), our coffee table is still so incredibly chipped, and you can see the drying rack + more under the couch and board games tucked under the coffee table….oops. This is also only a snapshot of about 3/4 of the living room–we’re still working on the rest, as well as the bedroom. Don’t even get me started on the bathroom. The only place for a desk is to the left of the couch so I’m trying to figure out the best way to have that be completely functional without being a total eyesore with a monitor, papers, etc. It doesn’t bother J as much as it bothers me, and he’s more concerned about the utility factor while I’m like, why do we need a laptop stand, it doesn’t fit with the ~aesthetic.~

We’re also on the hunt for a very small, narrow console table, as well as a new coffee table and new TV console. My hope is to go the Craigslist/vintage route because we’re splurging on a couple things for the bedroom…I’d love to find a thrifted pair of tall nightstands–the bed is on risers–but that’s proving to be quite difficult, and we’re getting a custom headboard (!!!!). Oh, and I’m fulfilling a dream of bedside sconces!! Plug-in, but still.

One of our best purchases was this pair of Serena & Lily barstools. I’ve been coveting them for years and originally wanted them in blue, but the red was seriously marked down (and still is!) so we went for it. We don’t have space for a dining table so comfortable bar seating was a necessity, and we just weren’t finding any that checked off all the boxes (the aesthetic–and I really wanted them to have backs, comfort, and price). I’m SO happy we went with these–they make me happy every time I see them and are ridiculously comfortable!

Let me know if you guys have any questions about specific items, etc. A decent amount of stuff is vintage or thrifted, but I linked to as much as I could! The whole space is definitely a work in progress so I’m not totally sure when an actual full home tour will be posted, but I’m going to continue sharing a few snaps along the way as we continue to check things off the list and move things around. I also promise to take better advantage of our floor to ceiling windows + northern light and not haphazardly snap photos after work…the tripod was set up for the gallery wall shot and it looks 100% better than all the others!

Thank you so much, Sarah! Totally feel ya…I do wish we had space for a table but it’s nice having a bar that’s conducive to basically “hanging out” in the kitchen!

  2. Love seeing your progress, Monica! Great coffee table styling and I think the red bar stools look awesome – they really make a statement and you don’t see them as often as the blue. Can’t wait to see more :)

I seriously treasure any styling compliment from you, so thank you!! And yeah I appreciated the red even more when they actually arrived…the price didn’t hurt, either!

I am LOVING that vintage bowl! Same with the area rug. Is it fairly easy to clean? I am about to take the plunge on a big area rug, but I can’t decide if I should go with wool or polypropylene. How would you rate it so far? Thank you for your help!!

Thank you, Kelly! Joy at Upcountry finds the best pieces :) And I haven’t had any issues with cleaning the rug, but just vacuum it regularly. It helps that the color is so dark so minor spills wouldn’t be an issue! This is what Rugs USA recommends so I’d defer to them for the last word: http://help.rugsusa.com/customer/en/portal/articles/2422094-how-do-i-care-for-my-area-rug-

In terms of durability, there has been a loose string in one place but nothing an easy trim couldn’t fix. Hope that’s helpful–let me know if you you have any more questions!

Totally makes sense! I waited awhile at my last place and was glad I did. Good news is you can generally always build up a little higher!
