Time for some apartment peeks! I’m going to snap some actual pictures of the space soon but wanted to share a few recent purchases that we’ve made. While we bought a few new things for the place–including a bed (cannot recommend this mattress more) and couch–the idea was to replace other things gradually for the sake of money and not rushing the decorating process. I’m also trying to think of the smaller, less expensive changes that can really elevate a space, such as new closet doorknobs (they arrive today!) and simple light fixtures to replace the unsightly generic ones that are tolerable but don’t do anything for the space.
L.L. BEAN COFFEE TABLE: I love the mix of modern + traditional so we went with a darker coffee table to balance out our new TV console (it’s vintage and arriving in a few weeks, so photo to come!). The desk is in the living room, too, so this coffee table should go well with the desk chair (see below).
L.L. BEAN TABLE LAMP: Lamps can add up! Things I never thought about as a child: lamps typically don’t come with shades, and they’re another $20-50 depend on where you go. Luckily we had an L.L. Bean coupon and stacked it with their Labor Day discount to get a pair of these in ivory. Our bedroom doesn’t have any overhead lighting so having something that really lit up the room was important. Sadly it meant I had to table my plug-in sconce dreams, but we’ll save that for another home :) An FYI that Target also has great budget-friendly lamps if you’re in the market!
SOCIETY SOCIAL CHAIR: This chair is everything, you guys. Yes, it’s pricey, but it’s a) custom b) very comfortable and c) so versatile–we’ll be using it as a desk chair but since it’s in the living room, it works as additional seating, too. It was important for me to know I’ll keep it and use it for years to come, and it’s definitely the kind of piece that would work equally well in an entryway or bedroom when we have more space. Fabric wise, I chose a hunter green wide windowpane-like fabric…it’s a little hard to describe so I’ll share snaps soon!
SIMPLI HOME BEDSIDE TABLE: After much deliberation and an Instagram poll, we went with darker bedside tables vs. white. Our dresser is dark wood and you can see one of the nightstands from the living room, so I’m hoping it will tie in well with the coffee table, too. This was an important purchase because we needed something wide (for the lamps + being able to put things on it) and ideally wanted drawers. I like the open shelf at the bottom because we’ll be able to lighten up the room with some coffee table books.
SOCIETY SOCIAL HEADBOARD: Arguably saved the best for last–literally the headboard of my dreams. J luckily was on board to go with a delicate blue + white striped fabric, and we ordered five samples and deliberated before deciding to splurge on this one. We wanted to get one really nice piece of furniture we’d keep for years (my desk chair didn’t count because that was a personal goal, but it falls into the same category :)) and ultimately decided on a headboard since the damage potential was a fraction of what a couch (what we were originally thinking) would have been. I’m so happy with how it turned out and love that it makes such a big statement while still practically being a neutral. It also eliminated the need for artwork over the bed–something I’d probably take another year to decide on–and works really well with the all-white bedding we already have.
That’s what I’ve got for now! I’m trying to share a few corners here and there on Instagram, but things aren’t very cohesive right now (read: the current situation is lamps that take up most of the nightstands they’re sitting on) so I want to hold off on more. If you’re interested, you can read this post for an informal peek of the living room. As always, let me know if you have any questions, especially in the way of custom furniture from Society Social :)
