Valentine’s Day Gifts Under $40

Valentine's Day gift ideas under $40

Are you a big Valentine’s Day person? I’m not really, and haven’t been since the days of homeroom cupcakes, candy, folded little boxed cards, etc. It’s not that I don’t like the holiday, it’s just that a) a lot of people get sad on it so why does there need to be a day when some people end up feeling really down b) it can easily cost an fortune and c) why can’t you show those you care about you love them any day of the year?

That being said, it’s always a little fun to spoil the people in your life, and there’s something to be said for the first Valentine’s Day with a significant other. For our first, J got me an enormously stunning, pricey vase of stargazer lilies (my favorite flower for years–hence the name of the blog), as well as a customized Dallas Maverick’s jersey with my name on it. And he got us takeout sushi (we were on our semester “abroad” in DC and had a test to study for that night, so didn’t want to go out). I, on the other hand, got him a $15 stuffed animal (part of an inside joke) and made him homemade chocolate covered raisins since he loves Raisinets. Basically I felt horrible–my $20 gesture was thoughtful, but his definitely took the cake. Needless to say, we now have a price limit set for most gifts we give each other– and Valentine’s Day this year is $40!

Some gift ideas that won’t break the bank for yourself (treat yourself!), girlfriends, moms, SOs, etc.!

ONE: Smathers & Branson hat: It’s unisex and patriotic…win-win!

TWO: North Face gloves: I got J a pair of gloves like these a couple of years ago and while they’re not the prettiest looking pair, they’re definitely handy when it snows.

THREE: Kate Spade business card holder: This card holder definitely gets shared a lot on this blog but with good reason! It’s budget-friendly, cute, and practical.

FOUR: Fringe notebook: Anyone else think pretty notebooks make fun gifts? I love the navy color on this one, and it’d be especially nice for someone who’s journaling or setting goals in the new year.

FIVE: Brew book: I love coffee table books so had to add one to this list. It would also make a great hostess gift!

SIX: Harry’s razor: I’ve sung high praises for Harry’s razors before (most recently in this post–ladies, it’s for you, too :)), and love the sleek design of the Winston. A monogrammed razor? Yes, please!

SEVEN: Gilligan & O’Malley PJs: How cute is this set?! I desperately need to up my PJ game (currently wearing some boxers from seven years ago) and have been eyeing this set for awhile. It’s definitely inspired by the luxurious Eberjey pair but I’ll take it!

EIGHT: Fresh lip treatment: Splurging on something like lip balm for yourself can feel like a waste sometimes, which makes it a really nice gift to receive.

NINE: L.L. Bean Soft Cotton Rugby: One of their newer items and I’m in love! It’s cozy, perfect for layering, and would transition well as we head into spring.

TEN: Design Darling monogram pen holder: A practical gift for the girls–use it to hold makeup brushes or as a simple pen holder at home or at the office.

ELEVEN: Whiskey Wisdom cards: Cards with whiskey facts? Yes, please! A fun deck to have on hand (they also make ones for wine and beer!)

TWELVE: Diptyque candle: Little luxuries at their finest…apparently guys don’t hate having these around either because they smell so good!
