Happy Thanksgiving week! Some of you are probably already on your way to celebrating the holiday–yet another year when it seems to have snuck up more quickly than usual. We’re heading to Florida for a few days of what is sure to be relaxing and filled with great food + warm temperatures. And big news upon our return: guess who is going to have her first real Christmas tree?! My family always had a fake one but we’re going ~all out~ and going to Whole Food (haha…city living without a car) to pick one up as soon as we get back next weekend.
Since this is the first time both J and I are putting up a tree since living in DC, we made a trip to Michaels this weekend to pick up the essentials. The only thing we already had was tree lights and despite expecting this to be the case, it was so hard not to pick up way too much stuff. We just kept reminding ourselves that we have literally zero storage space (TBD where our new ornaments and tree stand will actually go once Christmas is over) and decided to pick up a couple boxes of generic ornaments, a beaded garland, and a couple other little things (like glittery snowflakes because of course) to decorate the space. Two of these stockings are also already on their way to us and will be here by the time we’re ready to decorate!
Onto this outfit…Katie and I snapped some pics in Georgetown yesterday and it continues to be my favorite place in the city to both walk around and take all my planned outfit photos (the ones that aren’t taken ~in the moment~ but trust me, I actually do wear the stuff I shoot in “real life”!). It was insanely windy yesterday but I love how this simple outfit worked with this particular street…part of why I always joke about not being able to be a full on fashion blogger is that many of my outfits aren’t that inventive, but I can’t help but get excited over a new simple sweater or pair of well-made boots that’ll go with everything. If I wasn’t going to be in Florida this Thanksgiving, I’d probably wear something like this on Thursday!
My search for nice black boots has literally been going on for three years, and the only brand I kept coming back to was Aquatalia. They’re Italian-made with waterproof suede and are known to be insanely comfortable…and of course, they retail for hundreds of dollars. I have really narrow calves and small ankles, so nearly all boots end up awkwardly swimming on my legs. Typically the Aquatalia styles that do get marked down aren’t as simple as a pair of flat black boots, but luckily Nordstrom Rack had the Aquatalia Giada boots for $299–by no means inexpensive, but 50% off and reasonable given the quality. I initially ordered a size 8 and Rack sent me these instead (you may have seen my Insta story about it…no idea how this happened as they don’t even sell these boots themselves) and by the time I received them and went to reorder, there was only an 8.5 left. I ordered them and they fit well with thick socks…I’m thinking of getting an insert to maybe give myself the option not to wear thick socks. Of course, as I’m writing this there is currently one size 8 left in stock, and these Aquatalia Giada boots are now actually on the Aquatalia website for just $150–a total steal! If they have your size, I can’t recommend them enough…they look so nice in person and the fact that they are waterproof makes them the most versatile pair of shoes in my closet. If your calves aren’t notably narrow, note that these do also stretch really easily!
PS: I’ve been posting gift guides on “off” days, but am planning on making Wednesday’s post holiday-themed, too! Friday will obviously be all about Black Friday. ICYMI, my plan is to continue posting regular content MWF and do gift guides on other days, so if those aren’t your thing you can still visit the blog like usual. There’s a “Holiday” tab in the nav bar and I’ll be adding new posts there, if you want a one stop shop to holiday content!
