Greetings from Dallas! I flew home early yesterday morning and am excited to spend my annual ~week at home seeing family, friends, and eating as much Tex-Mex and In-N-Out as possible. Since some of you are probably trying to piece together a couple of last minute gifts, I wanted to compile a few ideas for anyone in a pinch…they’re mostly gender-neutral (or available for both men and women), so here’s to crossing off everyone in the next day or two!
Retailers with expedited shipping
- EVERLANE: Order by 12pm EST today for free shipping in time for Christmas. You can’t go wrong with $100 cashmere that’s available in every color (truly think a cashmere sweater is one of the best gifts you can give), the best leather tote (only the pink is available to ship now, but see my gift card theory before because doing that with a note about this would be thoughtful)
- L.L. BEAN: Order by 12pm EST today for free shipping in time for Christmas (plus get a $10 gift card with a $50 spend). This pullover is always my number one gift pick (here it is for men), but you know how hard it is for me to play favorites with anything from Bean.
- AMAZON: J got me this hairbrush for my birthday this year (I really wanted it and will be doing a post about it in the new year) and it would seriously make the best gift if you’re willing to splurge. On the other end of the spectrum, I got just got J this set of round ice molds–they’re a steal at $10 and are really easy to use. If you’re stumped idea wise, I’d recommend looking at kitchen stuff on Amazon…anyone else loving giving practical gifts a lot of the time?
- NORDSTROM: Order by 12pm EST tomorrow (12/21) for free shipping by Christmas Eve on certain items, or order online and pick up items in store. The items that can be delivered by CE are clearly marked (and it seems like it’s really a LOT of things)…the Mason Pearson brush is available here, too, this throw is on sale and comes in so many colors, this classic v-neck sweater is a safe bet for men, and this duffle bag is a great buy for a traveler on your list.
Show, sporting event, or plane tickets
Who else feels like tickets to things often fall by the wayside as gift ideas when people initially start shopping for the holidays? Especially since every blogger–obviously myself included–puts out gift guides filled with every product under the sun. Experiences are one of my favorite things to give and receive, and I think a lot of people feel similarly (especially those living in small spaces who don’t want to store a bunch of things)–last year, since our birthdays fall within about a month of each other, J and I just bought tickets to and our hotel in Palm Beach as presents to each other and it worked out really well. You can always write out a nice note and a “voucher” for a future trip–just make sure you actually follow through with it and actually make the plans :)
As someone who loves shopping for other people, I really dislike giving out gift cards (don’t mind receiving them, though, teehee.) If you’re in a pinch, though, they’re increasingly easy to pick up thanks to drugstores selling quite the variety and retailers making them available via email. If you do decide to go the gift card route, I’d make sure it’s to a store you know the recipient shops at–this also works well if you know they’re in the market for something that requires sizing (shoes, clothes, etc.) or falls into a very specific aesthetic (like home decor or furniture)…consider a gift card to a place where you know they may be looking for something, and include a nod to how you thought they may use it in your personalized note/card.
Donation to charity
Last but certainly not least, one of the best and most thoughtful gifts is making a donation to charity in the recipient’s name. Think about what causes likely matter most to them personally, and write a sweet note to explain why you chose that charity for them specifically.
A reminder that you can view all my gift guides here (hopefully still helpful if you’re planning on shopping in store over the next couple of days). I’m also going to take a few days off from posting but will be back here next Wednesday with a recap of 2017 to kick off content for the new year! Hope you all have a safe, wonderful holiday and enjoy some time off :)
