We got back to DC late yesterday afternoon after having the best two days in Bermuda. Have any of you been? It’s a wonderful island that’s a less than two hour direct flight from DC (it’s off the coast of South Carolina, despite many–including myself, for awhile, thinking it’s further south!) and feels like an amazing escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. I completely understand why most people who visit make it a point to come back, and I can’t wait to share a full recap with you soon!
I’m always a bit puzzled about how happy I am by the water considering I grew up in landlocked Dallas and we didn’t take many beach/lake vacations as a family, since they aren’t my parents’ trips of choice. I’ve definitely traveled to the water much more as an adult and at this point, end up craving it multiple times per year. There are definitely places within driving distance of DC but the proximity of the ocean and the mountains is something that’s constantly pulling me to New England…we’re so happy where we are right now, but being able to make a relatively easy drive to so many coastal downs is something that’s been on my mind as of late. Anyhoo, J and I wanted to take a quick weekend trip to a new-to-us place and settled on Bermuda–and I’m so glad we did! My birthday was on Thursday and his is next month, so we decided to treat ourselves to a vacation and pass on the material gifts + fancy dinners this year.
I’m going to share the details–including our hotel and what we did–in separate posts, but had a lot of fun packing for the island and snapped every outfit I wore minus the two swimsuits + coverup. I wore this Duffield Lane top with my go-to white jeans to breakfast on Saturday, but it’s also what I wore to my birthday dinner at Le Diplomate with some friends last Wednesday (though I traded in these M.Gemi flats–sadly old and sold out, but these are a similar style–for a pair of the Attorno sandals). Finding a neutral yet statement top that’s machine washable and doesn’t require a special bra is basically my favorite kind of clothing discovery, and I’ve worn this one three times since it arrived less than two weeks ago. It’s definitely pricey, but it’ll be a staple for summers to come, particularly because DL items wash and wear so well! I’m wearing a size small and it fits perfectly.
As an aside, we shot these photos on this large deck-like piece of the property–it juts out at the front and had a couple of Adirondack chairs + tables for lounging and enjoying the waves. I wish we’d taken drinks or tea/coffee out there…it was beautiful, especially early in the morning!
