I know we just did an “around here” post but I have a weird smattering of things to share. First off, I hate that I’m wishing time away but I’m so over summer–it’s just too hot. There are definitely perks of this season but I despise sweating and am one of those people who gets a really bad headache after even just a little time in the direct sun. So while it’s really fun to take advantage of the longer days and the general upbeat vibes that come with the season, I’m really ready not to sweat through my clothes at 8am and comfortably take Millie for a walk in leggings. That said, I’ve been trying to keep plans on the lighter side because I know how easy it is to wear myself out. It’s been so nice taking advantage of my unlimited yoga membership (I actually go to pilates, pilates barre, and a cardio-based class almost exclusively; more to come on this soon!) and being home more in the evenings to cook dinner.
Along those lines, we had a really nice weekend with minimal plans aside from Orangetheory and pilates. Katie and I hung out on Friday night and finally tried out Pupatella, an Arlington staple, before she moves into DC next month. We spent the rest of the night watching The Princess Diaries Two, drinking rosé, multitasking on our laptops, and catching up about everything. It doesn’t sound like the most exciting night, but it was just what we both needed and I sense manyyy more of these in our future when she moves!
A couple other random things…this Kayu clutch–basically a Meghan Markle favorite, apparently, since she wore a very similar style–was a splurge even though I got it on sale a couple of years ago. I don’t use small, dressier clutches much but when I do, this is the one I reach for the most. The other couple I have are were passed down from my mom, but this little navy one is the versatile. It fits the essentials–lipstick, a tiny wallet, my phone, etc.–and is hands down one of my favorite accessory buys. It went perfectly with my Mi Golondrina top, which is even more beautiful in person. I discovered the Dallas-based brand a few years ago and wasn’t in the position to splurge on one of their tops, but decided I would some day (sooner rather than later). That finally happened in May and I’m so happy I did! The tops are handmade by artisans living in villages in Mexico and both the level of detail and quality are unmatched. They’re also machine washable, and we all know how I feel about that 😆
A quick thing I forgot to mention last week…I saw the new Mama Mia in theaters last weekend and it was SO good! I love musicals and was a huge fan of the first one, so seeing this was a no-brainer. It’s definitely cheesy but if you’re there for the cheese and good music, you will love it. I’ve been listening to the soundtrack of both since and it’s a fun throwback!
On another note, we pick up a box of pasta from the refrigerated section at Trader Joe’s every few weeks as a “backup” for busy nights and picked this one up on Saturday. J was out for the evening so I was on my own for dinner and decided to make it (so much for the “backup”) and it was the best pasta TJ’s pasta I’ve had! It’s a Sweet Corn, Basil, and Burrata variety and I tossed it in olive oil, parmesan, and crushed black pepper. A note to actually follow the low end of the cook time noted on the package instructions…I always assume the ravioli is undercooked but five minutes at a simmer (mine didn’t even actually simmer) does the trick!
