A Comfortable Travel Outfit

We’re approaching two of the busiest travel days of the year, and I’m sure many of you are also going to be hitting the road, be it by car, train, or plane, over the next few weeks. If you’re team carry-on–#nocheckedbags–like I am (we’re actually going to try this for a week at Christmas with Millie + her carrier being one of our personal items, and presents in tow) wearing something on the plane that doubles as one of your outfits for the rest of your trip is key. Many people usually get cold on planes and while I’m typically okay or actually get too warm, layering is always the best move and also let’s you pack less and carry more! I think what I’m wearing in today’s post is going to continually be a go-to travel outfit for me since I tend to pack basic tees to wear under thick sweaters and want something longer up top to pair with leggings once I reach my destination.

“That would be ideal for travel” is actually the first thing I thought when I saw this sweater on from Duffield Lane, and knew I had to share it as a comfortable travel outfit over here. I prefer to travel in leggings but don’t want to look like a slob and always want to have my backside covered, ya know? You could layer this sweater over a basic tank, short sleeve tee, or long sleeve tee like I did here (I’m wearing a small but wish it was a medium or large for a less snug fit) and it goes equally well with skinny jeans and booties or flats for a more dressed up look for the rest of your trip. If you tend to stick to the basics when you travel–as most people would recommend you do!–having a piece or two like this in your arsenal makes it way easier to pack lightly. I’m wearing a size small and would say it fits true to size or if anything, runs very slightly large!

I’ve mentioned it before, but one of my favorite things about Duffield Lane that their pieces are typically hand or machine wash versus dry clean. I’d rather spend more upfront than have to dry clean something (it’s so expensive in DC!) and have basically stopped buying dry clean only items since I end up being afraid to wear them or stingy when it comes to laundering. My washing machine actually has a “hand wash” cycle and I’ll just toss the garment in a large mesh bag and wash it on cold! This has worked well for all my cashmere, too.
