Friday Things

In case you hadn’t heard yet (haha), we had our first snow of the season in DC yesterday and it was perfect. I went to a 6:30am workout class and it was sleeting on my way there and the snow was fairly substantially coming down on my walk home! It was an unexpected treat and while it definitely posed some problems transportation-wise, if you’re a snow person you were undoubtably happy about this early surprise. The best part is that Millie loved it! We were kind of worried about her being miserable and refusing to go out but she was jumping around, trying to eat it, and was generally really happy. The picture above is the best we got (she’s literally LAYING in it, which was adorable) and there’s a video on my Insta Stories under the “Millie” highlight, if you also love puppies playing in the snow :)

My week has been super low key with zero post-work plans other than a couple workouts and baking these s’mores bars for our office Thanksgiving today. We’re flying to Dallas for Thanksgiving on Tuesday but first, I’m heading to a couple wineries with some of my favorite girls tomorrow and we’re joining some college + “real life” friends (nothing makes me happier than having some overlaps with this group now!) for Friendsgiving on Sunday. Hope you all have a great weekend, and safe travels if you’re heading somewhere for the holiday!

A little short on links the past couple of weeks–I’ve spent less time browsing the internet, which is both a good and a bad thing, clearly!

+ A quick thing about seasonal content on the blog–I’ve added a tab called “Holiday” to the top nav bar and will be fleshing out that section more this weekend. It’ll have recipes + gift guides (and probably some outfit ideas!) all in one place.

+ I’ve been considering a switch to natural deodorant (something I never thought I’d say after a horrible experience with Toms like four years ago) and am probably going to try Kopari after reading about Ashlee’s and Grace’s posts on their quest for the best. I sweat kind of a lot and am a little nervous but may give it a shot at the coldest and driest time of year–January!

+ A test to determine the best jarred pasta sauce–Rao’s marinara was the winner! It took me awhile to splurge on it (I used to exclusively buy the cheapest option!) but the sugar content is lower, ingredients cleaner (who am I? I know), and most importantly, the we’ve found the taste to be notably better. We’ll only buy it on sale at Whole Foods or at Costco–the latter is the best deal!

+ Sarah’s home tour (round ii!) was on The Everygirl this week! I’m always so impressed at her ability to find the best Craiglist gems and how well she pairs together unexpected combinations. Get ready for a great dose of inspiration!

+ I was searching for a nice black bag that’s not cheap but not super pricey, and would work equally well with a laptop or purse for daily use and also function as a practical personal item on airplanes. I ordered this vegan leather tote from Plan De Ville and it’s even more gorgeous in person. My daily bag tends to be more casual but I wanted something nicer than a leather tote but larger capacity-wise than a typical satchel-style purse. This bag has a detachable shoulder strap, fits my 13″ laptop, and is very sturdy–two things that are easier said than done with a nicer satchel! Highly recommend if you’re looking for something similar for yourself or a thoughtful, practical holiday gift for women of all ages.

+ Kate always has the best holiday recipe ideas (not surprising given her recent book!) I want these garlic and herbed crab pinwheels!

+ Gift guides have started! So far, the best gifts for people who live in small spaces, and some hostess gift ideas. Stay tuned for more :)

+ A tour of our little bedroom and how we made it all work.

+ The best new arrivals at L.L. Bean right now.

+ A bunch of festive ways to spend the holidays in Washington, DC.

+ What I’ll be wearing to fly home for Thanksgiving next week!

Highly recommend trying out Kopari! And I think you’re idea to try it out during a colder month is a great idea. I did my switch to natural over the spring and summer months, which led to some very sweaty commutes! haha
