This is my last “gift guide” of the year (I’m sure many of you are happy to hear that, if you’re done shopping) and I’ll be back on Friday before taking off till the New Year! Don’t forget you can shop all my gift guides here (many items will still arrive by Christmas!), browse my holiday recipes, and shop my gift recs in one place if you’d rather not navigate individual guides. I’m keeping it short and sweet since anyone who is still checking items off the list is probably not in the mood for heavy browsing and just want to get things off your plate. Hopefully these ideas will get the juices flowing!
DONATION TO CHARITY
Making a donation in someone’s name is always a thoughtful gesture–do a search of organizations in your hometown or the recipient’s hometown if you’d prefer something local over national. I like to start with a list like this and do more research into the organizations that stand out to me, but word of mouth is a great way to learn about some of the smaller opportunities that don’t always get into the press. And on that note, I have to share this post from Mackenzie–it’s one of the best I read in all of 2018!
I’m a huge proponent of gifting experiences and J and I have both been doing it a decent amount over the past couple of year (like our trips to Palm Beach and Bermuda!) It doesn’t have to be an entire trip, but something like tickets to a show, a reservation to a cool restaurant at a place you’re already planning to travel to (or locally!), a spa day or massage (the Argentta at the relatively newly-re-opened Watergate looks incredible, if you’re in DC), or even a Flytographer session can be really thoughtful.
My go to DIY gifts are a loaf of this bread or chocolate dipped pretzels with sprinkles wrapped in little cellophane bags with a bow (Just buy a bag of semisweet chocolate chips and some square pretzels and melt the chips over low heat in a pot, dip the pretzels, drizzle on the sprinkles, and cool pretzels in the fridge for an hour or more on piece of wax paper.) I also made these pecans this year and they’re delicious!
Nordstrom does this every year and it’s perfect for last minute shoppers since shipping is free! Tons of their items are marked with “Arrives by Christmas Eve”–I’m partial to their classic Halogen cashmere sweater (on sale for under $60, too!), a luxurious candle (my favorite scent!), and one of the best wraps ever–it’s the perfect leave-at-your-desk x travel cardigan and is 50% off which, is the lowest I’ve seen it!
Unsurprisingly, Amazon comes through when it comes to last minute shopping! We LOVE our Instant Pot, this is one of the best things I bought in 2019, I got J these ice molds last year, and I’d easily gift anything from this list!
