It won’t surprise those of you who have been reading for awhile that my “hotel bucket list” is forever growing! Not only are there specific destinations that I’m itching to visit, but there are specific properties I’m eager to stay at. While many of them are unfortunately currently out of reach for the budget-friendly vacations we try to take, I’d love to start incorporating a night or two if the opportunity presents itself (like if there are other hotels in the area that are easy to switch to, or we’re traveling for a special occasion).
I’d heard of Grand Hotel a Villa Feltrinelli in passing–likely through a travel magazine or blog–but more recently came across it through Julia and Rosie–Rosie got married there last summer! It’s situated right on Garda, a lake in Northern Italy that’s about as picturesque as you’d imagine for an Italian lake. It’s an easy train ride from Milan or Verona and while I’d love to get back to Lake Como, Garda is definitely where I’ll be heading next time we plan a vacation in that part of Italy!
A quick note: If you’re new around here, these Around the World posts are a combination of hotels I’ve stayed at and ones on my bucket list. I’ll typically find them on Instagram, via a travel site, in a magazine, via another blog, etc…you get the picture. In a lot of cases it’s a photo-heavy post with minimal text (unless I’ve stayed at the property, in which case I’ll share my experience and own photos). Hopefully they inspire you to explore a new destination, add another hotel to your own dream list, and even get the decorating juices flowing for your own space!
I love properties that have their own “grounds” – they tend to be luxury properties, but they feel like the ultimate escape rather than just a place to sleep. This is one of the more unique pool + lounge setups I’ve seen, but I can’t get enough!
I’ve said it before, but I love the mix of modern and traditional decor. The use of color (bright pinks + florals + dark woods + green accents) is the ultimate upscale whimsical combination. This particular room kind of reminds me of a beautifully styled NYC brownstone…not a bad vibe for a lakefront vacation!
Yet another situation that makes me want to go thrifting. This setup also does a great job arguing for custom upholstery and crisp white bedding! (I love white bedding and this is our favorite budget-version)
I never gravitate towards yellow but it’s hard not to appreciate what’s going on here–happy-yellow vs. canary-yellow. The mix of textures (with the curtains, couch, accent chair, pillows, and smooth wood) is really nice, too.
