It is absolutely frigid in DC today–and it takes a lot for me to say that, as I’ll take freezing cold over hot almost any day–and while many people have the day off, lots of offices are still open so I’m heading into work this morning! I’m also trying Pure Barre for the first time in around three years tonight (since Friday, I’ve joined ClassPass for a free month to try things out) and am excited to sample a variety of workouts–including Barry’s and Solidcore, which have both been on my to-try list for a long time. I’ll report back!
Onto today’s order of business…I posted this picture of our living room on Instagram last night and wanted to share some of the more recent home purchases we’ve made. I don’t regret a single one, which makes me happy because it’s an indication that I’m getting increasingly comfortable at making design-related decisions, and that J and I have done a good job combining our preferences! (He prefers modern, vs. I prefer more traditional decor.)
Until recently, the only lighting in our living room was two vintage lamps. They’re pretty and did the job, but once it started getting dark earlier and we wanted a light left on for Millie, it was kind of nerve-wracking to leave something with old wiring on for hours when we weren’t home. I love our new floor lamp–it’s a steal, too, and the height is a nice against the gallery wall.
Our recent splurge, currently functioning as a side table on one end of our sofa! The top is the “tabletop” and the bottom is housing about half our cookbooks (we have a lot!). I love how versatile the cart is–in a future home, I could see it being the bar cart, glassware storage unit, or even a nightstand. P.S. Serena & Lily has 20 or 25% off sales a few times a year–Cyber Monday was when we snagged ours!
I picked up some vibrant Serena & Lily pillows on sale a few years ago and we alternated those with some blue + white gingham pillows that were fairly flat. I love the stripes on these and how simple they are–they’re a blank canvas for whatever second of pillows we decide to layer on. We’ve had them for months and they’ve made the right amount of statement just standing on their own!
I need to write a full blog post about our new-ish sofa, but we replaced our original one (which was horrible…seriously…I had an allergic reaction to the fabric) with this gorgeous white one from Crate & Barrel. It’s currently on sale and while I didn’t love the idea of spending so over $1k on a couch, learned pretty quickly that unfortunately that’s par for the course if you’re looking for something that’s high-quality, very comfortable, and checked all our boxes. I love that the covers are machine washable and the whole thing is cotton–both factors were a must for us (which added to the cost).
I’ve eyed these shadow boxes for years but they’ve always felt really overpriced to me! But a lot my jewelry was sitting in one box, completely on top of each other to the point where I couldn’t even see what I had, and we also get a lot of dust so the idea of displaying them on a tray wasn’t appealing. I ended up trying out one of these boxes when West Elm had a site-wide sale and it was definitely the right move–it’s pretty, corrals everything into one place, and keeps dust out!
