My 7 Most Worn Items This Summer

We’re fully in the thick of the dog days of summer and every year I assume DC is breaking heat-related records because it’s always miserable out in August. You’d have thought growing up in Texas would make me more tolerant of the high temperatures but I’m the biggest wuss right now!

While I’ve been mostly commuting in workout clothes (I prefer to walk to and from work everyday but it’s about two miles in each direction which isn’t great when it’s this hot…so I take the bus, but sometimes it doesn’t show up so I like to be prepared in athletic clothes if I do have to walk!), there have been a few summer pieces I’ve reached for over and over again due to the breathability and ability to go with anything when I just want to prioritize feeling cool over looking cute. My office dress code is casual so luckily I can wear these there, too, but they get worn just as much on the weekends as they do during the week. Most items are under $100 and I’ll note that I didn’t include any dresses here because I have a few and rotate through them pretty consistently! These are just the items I’ve notably been reaching for continuously–they really deserve their own post!

Everlane Cotton V-Neck Tee

I’m wearing this shirt right now (with these shorts in white–which honestly should probably have been on this list but I’ve been wearing the denim ones mentioned below a little more this summer) and sized up to a large. You can see it in this outfit post! I love that it’s 100% cotton and doesn’t cling if you size up. Plus, it comes in so many colors. At $18, the price is great and per usual with Everlane, the quality is notably good!

Jack Rogers sandals

A tried and true staple in my closet for several years, I reach for my Jack Rogers all.the.time. over the summer! They go with everything and I have both white and gold but have been wearing the white a lot this year. I love that they last for years and never go out of style, plus they can easily be dressed up or down. I don’t walk miles in them but they’re what I reach for when I don’t want to think about specifically matching my footwear to my outfit–since they always work!

Sarah Flint Grear sandals

I’ve mentioned these a couple of times this summer (including in this post) but I’ve been truly blown away by how much I love my first pair of Sarah Flint shoes! These sandals have gotten so much wear this summer and I they’re amazingly comfortable given the flat footbed. I wasn’t sure if I’d end up wearing them with everything but have paired them with shorts, dresses, and pants alike and loved how they’ve helped elevate otherwise very simple outfits. The price is a little high but the quality is phenomenal–you can also get $50 off your first pair here, which helps!

J.Crew denim shorts

These are the best denim shorts I’ve found as of late! I wear them multiple times a week and while I wish they were a hair longer, find the length to be pretty modest as far as this style goes. In typical J.Crew fashion, they’re regularly on sale–I picked up the white pair earlier this summer, too.

American Eagle white jeans

I love wearing white jeans but obviously don’t reach for them if I’m going to be outside a bunch! If we’re taking a ride share or walking a short distance to dinner, I always reach for this pair. They’ve been on the blog a bunch and they’re a total steal! The one downside is they sit a little lower than I prefer but they fit well otherwise and for the price and impressive opacity level, I’m okay with the lower rise.

Lake Pajamas

These are hands down one of–if not the–best things I’ve purchased all year. I literally just raved about them but couldn’t leave them off since they’ve become one of my most worn things ever since arriving three or so weeks ago. If you’ve been on the fence, don’t hesitate to try them. The fit is incredible (I have a medium in this set), the quality is worth the price, and the styles are so, so cute. I wash mine in the machine on cold, try to pair them with similar things (like delicate tops), and don’t put them in the dryer.

Tretorn sneakers

I loved my Supergas so much but given some foot issues requiring more support in sneakers, had to donate them a couple of months ago! I picked up this pair of Tretorns and while they’re no workout shoe comfort-wise, they’re the most comfortable non-athletic sneaker I’ve tried. The style is classic, they come in a bunch of different colorways, and the price is great. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a comfy shoe to that’ll take you from summer to fall!
