My Current Go-To Makeup Products

Current Makeup Go-Tos

It probably comes as no surprise by now that I’m far from a beauty and skincare junkie. I have really sensitive skin that breaks out very easily, and I basically don’t try any non-makeup products without talking to my aesthetician. (And makeup is usually run by her, too). There are a few “vetted” products I’ve been using and loving and since they’ve been my go-tos for awhile, I wanted to compile them into a post and share how I use them!

Also a quick note about the towels in the background: Weezie sent them over for me to try, and I love them! Our towels are from college (we’re going to register for new ones closer to the wedding) and the washcloths are very rough. These come as a pair and are a great way to elevate your self-care game without doing a linen overhaul, and they’d make the perfect gift for a girlfriend or family member who likes to indulge but values practicality. A 10/10 from me!

My Current Go-To Makeup Products

BEAUTYCOUNTER TINT SKIN HYDRATING FOUNDATION // This product actually made my “best purchases of 2019” list and I still love it just as much as I did when I wrote that! Obviously everyone’s skin is different but this has worked really well for me as an everyday, really light foundation. It’s almost more like a BB or CC cream because it’s incredibly light and not full-coverage. I actually don’t even own any other foundation (and need to change that for the few times something heftier would be helpful to have!) and just end up layering on the Tint Skin if I want something more.

URBAN DECAY NAKED PALETTE // I have the original version of this palette that has since been discontinued, but this one is similar. It’s really great if you have minimal makeup knowledge or want something low maintenance…most of the colors are really basic and there’s a good spectrum to take you from day to night.

FIRST AID BEAUTY ULTRA REPAIR CREAM // Non-makeup but I had to get it on here–the holy grail of moisturizer! My aesthetician recommended this as my everyday facial moisturizer but it’s also great as a body cream. It’s wonderful for sensitive skin (and perfect for times like this where we’re washing our hands on repeat.) A little goes a long way and the price point is great–if you buy one thing from this post, I’d make it this! While I mainly only use it on my face every night, I’ve had this little 2oz tube and it’s lasted nearly two years.

REN PRIMER // I bought this primer on Victoria’s recommendation (she has great recommendations), and have been really impressed so far! Like I said, I hardly wear heavy makeup but if I’m layering on more than one coat of this foundation, I put some primer on first. I’d been looking for a brand that wouldn’t make me break out (most of them contain silicone) and was pleasantly surprised that this did the trick! The price is reasonable, too–a little goes a long way.

ILIA MASCARA // I love this mascara! As someone who has always purchased drugstore brands (with coupons), spending $25+ on a tube made me cringe. But I’d seen buzz about Ilia all over and Ailsa convinced me to try it in the fall. It’s wonderful in all aspects but I’m currently trying to trim my budget so went back to the drugstore. If you’re open to spending a little more or looking for a great “clean” mascara, I’d highly recommend.

LAURA MERCIER TRANSLUCENT LOOSE SETTING POWDER // A very basic loose setting powder that I’ve had for far too long–despite the expiration date–but it does the job and lasts forever. I’ll let the reviews speak for themselves and would definitely recommend this as a simple everyday powder!
