I’m never sure how to cover the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale anymore, partly because it’s so overdone and hated on (every blogger seems to mention it in some capacity!) and this year, because we’re still very much in the middle of a pandemic and nearly all of our shopping habits have likely changed in the past five months.
This sale has always been special to me–I used to shop it in-person with my mom growing up–and I’ve picked up some really good, long-lasting items in recent years. Frankly, I also really like blogging about it! So here’s my one post about it, broken into three sections: What I’m Buying, Things I Own + Love, and Misc. (the latter has items that caught my eye but aren’t things I’m purchasing personally). If you have a Nordstrom credit card, you can shop on Thursday (some people already can because of a higher tiered status) and the sale opens to everyone on the 19th. Nordstrom is doing something new this year where every item is already available for viewing online and you can add items to your “wishlist” and complete your purchase once you’re able to shop. A bunch of items are sold out now but I’ve heard they’re going to be restocking…hopefully that’s the case!
What I’m buying:
+ La Canadienne booties: My hunt for the perfect pair of flat booties has been coming up short for two years and I’m determined to remedy that this year! I have really small ankles but an average sized foot, so a lot of ankle boots look clown-like on my feet. I also have flat feet and experience foot pain without good support, so am willing to pay a high price for comfort. I’m going to order these–the fact that they’re waterproof sealed the deal!
+ Nécessaire Body Duo: I’ve been looking for a clean body lotion that isn’t greasy and have heard rave reviews about Nécessaire’s! This set is a few bucks more than the lotion is by itself, and doing the math, it makes sense to spend the extra to get the 8oz body wash since I was going to order the lotion from Sephora soon anyway.
+ Supergoop sunscreen: Face sunscreen is always top of mind for me (I use this), but I seriously slack on body SPF when we go out and walk Millie multiple times a day. I’m going to try this set from Supergoop!
+ Fresh cleanser: This is my everyday cleanser and I re-buy it 2-3 times a year. This set is $35, which is a couple dollars less than the normal full price for the large bottle–plus you get the mini along with it.
+ Bombas socks: I bought this set a few months ago and am just kicking myself it took me so long. They’re expensive but are truly the best–they’re the only socks I wear now, and the no-shows have been on my list! I’m going to get a set of those and a set of the ankle style.
Things I own and love:
+ Barefoot Dream cardigan: I bought this in the Anniversary Sale a few years ago and it’s been a staple for home and travel! It’s perfect for WFH and I like that it’s longer and therefore very legging-friendly.
+ T3 hair dryer: Hands down the best hair dryer I’ve ever used! I bought it during the Anniversary Sale two years ago and think it’s worth the price. It dries my hair exceptionally quickly and leave it looking shinier and healthier than my old drugstore dryer before it.
+ Cashmere scarf: I don’t have this exact scarf, but I have a similar oversized version from a past sale and it’s the first scarf I reach for in the dead of winter. It’s the best for travel and while it’s not the softest cashmere on the market, it’s a great value for the price. (Note: I wash my cashmere on the hand wash cycle with cold water and this detergent!)
+ Adidas UltraBoost running shoe: These are my favorite walking sneakers! I don’t wear them for high intensity workouts but know many people who do (I have flat feet so use even more supportive shoes for most exercising beyond walking.) I’ve clocked so many miles in them and am onto my second pair…they’re what I wear any time we walk Millie, year-round, unless there’s inclement weather!
+ Moonlight Dream Pajamas: These come in a short version and long version and if you’re looking for a luxurious pair of PJ’s that won’t break the bank, I love these! You know how much I love Lake but my bestie got me a pair of these last year and I love that they look pretty polished and are a great year-round fabric. There’s a reason so many people swear by these!
+ Hanky Panky thong: They have a devoted following for a reason and I love how well they hold up after repeated washes and drys!
+ True Body Bralette: A great wireless bra if you’re looking for something easy to wear at home…I prefer more support in general but really like having this as an options for evenings (and sometimes to sleep in while traveling!). There are a couple different versions–this one is the standard, but I have this one that’s designed for larger chests. I wear an XS and would recommend sizing down!
+ Wacoal Red Carpet Strapless Bra: The actual BEST strapless bra, I promise! It’s my go-to and I will sing its praises forever. The coverage is great, it’s so comfortable, and the support is unmatched. It doesn’t go on sale often but I’d pay full price for it in a second.
+ Halogen cashmere crewneck: I wear simple cashmere crewnecks on repeat in the colder months and Nordstrom’s in-house brand, Halogen, is a good one! It’s no-frills but is perfect to dress up or down and comes in several colors.
+ Gal Meets Glam striped dress: This isn’t fall item but it’s part of the sale…I got this last summer and it’s beautiful! The material is incredibly lightweight and it’s great with flat sandals for a casual look, or with wedges for something dressier. I know I’ll be wearing it for summers to come!
+ Hydroflask water bottle: Only one color is on sale, but J has a Hydroflask and loves it! I’ve been debating one for myself but would prefer a more neutral color.
+ Cowl neck sweater: I snagged a similar sweater in the sale two or three years ago and have gotten so much wear out of it! The cowl neck feels a little dressy, and I like being able to wear a cotton crewneck underneath for extra warmth and to go longer between washes.
+ Eliza J dress: For any winter brides looking for a pretty white dress–I would buy it in a second if we were doing anything wedding-related in the colder months!
+ Barbour raincoat: Barbour’s outerwear is some of the best and I love my raincoat that I picked up in London last spring. While it’s still pricey, the quality is typically great and I appreciate that they’re “waterproof” instead of “water-resistant”–meaning they’ll truly keep you dry. In the non-raincoat department, I also love this quilted Barbour.
+ Misc. candles: There are always some good candles in the Anniversary Sale, and we’ll often pick up a few to keep on hand for gift giving throughout the year. This one is so pretty, and the Voluspa sets are a good deal. For a splurge, there’s this Diptyque mini set–you could break it out into five individuals, too.
