I don’t even really know how to start this post because this is hands down the largest posting break I’ve taken since starting this blog over 8 years ago, so I’ll dive right in with some life happenings! I actually drafted some of this post several weeks ago and struggled to finish it because I kept trying to address the hiatus–which doesn’t really have more of an explanation besides a) wedding planning and b) needing more of a break from spending time on my computer after work.
If you follow me on Instagram, you saw that J and I tied the knot in June :) Our new plan wound up being perfect and I can’t wait to share the details! We got all our photos back and I’m planning to do posts on a bunch of different topics this fall–from the paper to the dress to the table settings and a bunch more in between! We’re planning on a full honeymoon next summer but spent three nights on Nantucket immediately following our wedding, which was the perfect minimoon to cap off wedding week!
It’s hard to believe we’ve lived in NYC for over eight months! The first few were spent mostly working from home and just going on long walks when it wasn’t frigid and exploring our new takeout options. When things with the pandemic took a turn for the better late spring (and once we were fully vaccinated), we started exploring more, getting together with friends, and really beginning to embrace what the city has to offer. We also begun traveling a bit more in May and the summer has flown by since; I took a trip to Maine with a couple girlfriends after we scraped my larger original bachelorette plan, and then it was our wedding, followed soon after by my best friend’s bachelorette and wedding. I’m currently winding down 10 days in New England; needless to say, May to present has been a blur! We’re heading to DC this weekend but after that, aside from a couple more weddings, plan mostly be in NYC through the end of the year. It’s no secret that I love fall and tend to wish away summer–especially by August–so I’m excited to spend our inaugural fall here in the city :)
The NYC food scene
While there are a few places I miss from the DC food scene, NYC obviously has no shortage of restaurants to discover. I’ve posted about several that we’ve been to on Instagram Stories but wanted to highlight some favorites, in case anyone is planning a trip to the city any time soon: Rubirosa (my all-time fav), American Bar, Ruby’s, JG Melon, L’Artusi, Pastis, Gelso & Grand, Van Leeuwen’s.
I surprised myself by not really shopping for our wedding or minimoon, but more for upcoming festivities + weddings. I ordered this dress from Sézane and it’s absolutely stunning in person (and looks way more expensive than it is). This dress has been a great Nap Dress alternative and I’ve reached for it a bunch. Commuting a few times a week is going to be part of my life again starting in about a month, and I’d always planned to buy a backpack ahead of going back to the office. I did a ton of research–pretty on and off throughout the past year plus–and didn’t find exactly what I was looking for. I wound up ordering this one last week, as it was the frontrunner the entire time and the closest to what I had in mind. It’s really spacious and lightweight in person so fingers crossed it serves its purpose well.
I also caved and bought a Dyson Airwrap as a birthday present to myself! I’ve struggled with learning how to do my hair for as long as I can remember and end up neglecting styling it most of the time since I don’t know what I’m doing. There’s definitely a learning curve on the Airwrap but even with minimal instruction, my hair looked better than it ever did when I touched it with a curling iron!
