Open-Faced Pizza Grilled Cheese

Makes 2 servings/4 open-faced sandwiches


  • 4 slices wheat bread (I used Trader Joe’s Whole Wheat Tuscan Pane)
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce
  • Desired amount of cheese, veggies, pepperoni, or any additional toppings (I used a shredded three cheese blend, sliced mozzarella, a bell pepper blend mix, and pepperoni)
  • Oregano or fresh basil for topping


  1. Set oven or toaster over to 450°F

  2. On a separate surface, evenly spread two tablespoons of marinara sauce on one side of each slice of bread. Evenly arrange cheese, followed by fresh toppings.

  3. Bake for 6-8 minutes, give or take, until cheese is fully melted. Remove from oven and top with dried oregano or fresh basil. If you’re going the traditional sandwich route, immediately put the two slices of bread together, toppings facing in, and gently push down. Toss it in a pan with a dab of olive oil and heat on low until cheese and topping have fully melted together.
